那为什么需要了解转述动词呢？当介绍信息来源时，转述动词可用于总结、转述或引用他人发现以此来确定其原始来源。
这里有一些关于转述动词用法的例子：
１.Johnson(2005.p.197)concludes that a person can be identified by name on the internet using age and address details.Johnson（2005.p.197）得出结论，在互联网上，可以通过一个人的名字来识别他的年龄和地址。

转述动词有很多，使用哪一个要取决于你想要传达的意义，也取决于你对文献来源的态度。例如，拒绝是一个强语气词，Smith et al,reject the proposal that…（Smith等人，拒绝……）。而商讨则是一个弱语气词，Smith et al,discuss the proposal that…（史密斯等人，讨论的建议是……）
另外还有一些语法规则需要考虑。这里是写作中最常见的，转述动词+that+主要观点。verbs+that+main ideas.例如，Peterson et all,(2013,para,36)acknowledge that internet privacy is a growing issue in the modern world of communication.这句话表达的是彼得森等人（2013年，第36段）承认，互联网隐私问题在现代通信世界中是一个日益严重的问题。
此外，还需要遵循一个语法规则是，转述动词+某物/某人+连接词+verbs+something/someone+connecting word+(e.g.as,Because,by,in terms of,for,that)
例如，Jackson(2012.pp.23-38)refutes the claim made by Smith that…这句话表达是Jackson（2012.pp.23-38）驳斥了Smith的说法……
